Station Visitors Greeted With Eye-Catching Artwork

(Published on:05 July 2010)

This long-term display at Swansea Station should generate a positive response to the artists’ talents and encourage new students to consider the Swansea Metropolitan University Course that promotes and exploits their skills.

Illustration Tutor, Duncan McLaren is very positive about the work and efforts made by the eight volunteers from the graduating year at Swansea Metropolitan University. He explained, at the unveiling of the project, that the students had gained useful ‘experience of working with a client’ and now had practical communication skills that could be used professionally. Proud of the group’s achievement he hopes that the paintings ‘will be an enduring showcase for Swansea Met.’

According to Swansea Metropolitan University’s website www.smu.ac.uk the Degree Course ‘concentrates on the role and function of General Illustration within the field of visual communications. It aims to develop transferable skills and flexible attitudes towards design and illustration for advertising and publishing.’

Station Manager, Jez Williams, said, “We’re delighted with the standard of work, which has certainly improved the approaches to the station. It has been a pleasure to offer the students the opportunity to illustrate their talent, which will also promote the many destinations accessible by train from Swansea. www.abayoflife.com/en/getting-around2/

Swansea Station opened originally in 1850 by South Wales Railway and was built out of wood with a roof made of galvanized steel. It has been renovated and extended many times during its existence and is due to undergo a complete redevelopment of the concourse starting later this year www.abayoflife.com/en/news/plans-for-swansea-rail-station-revamp-are-unveiled/
