The National Trust cares for over 5,500 acres on Gower, including 26 miles of the peninsula’s coastline. Gower was designated the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1956 due to its unique landscape created by a variety of habitats and farming. From the vast expanse of salt marsh in the north, to the stunning Rhossili bay on the west, along to the wooded valley at Bishopston, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Breathtaking views with a large sandy beach means that Rhossili is a popular destination on Gower.
For a quieter stroll, Whiteford Burrows National Nature Reserve may be preferred. Much of our land is common land with commoners exercising their traditional rights to graze cattle, ponies and sheep. The common land which the National Trust owns is open access to walkers, although there is a vast network of footpaths and bridleways available.
The National Trust is a charity which depends on memberships and donations.
