Tourism Swansea Bay Chairman’s review – Pennard Golf Club

Our Chairman, Stephen Crocker, recently visited Pennard Golf Club and here’s what he had to say:

“Pennard Golf Club
Swansea
Pennard Golf Club, Pobbles Restaurant, function rooms, and pro golf shop.

The location of the Club can be found on the right side of the road just before you enter the village of Southgate. The Clubs website is full of useful information including a directions page with postcodes and maps etc. The website and Facebook page also contain all the information you might need if you wish to pay a visit and have a game of golf or just visit the Club and enjoy what it has to offer.

There is a well-stocked Pro Shop on-site, with excellent staff and you can arrange lessons with the on-site PGA, Pro. Again all the information is availed on the club’s website.

However, that is just half the story, what a location, says it better. The Club is located on a high point in the area so the views are spectacular especially of the world-famous Three Cliffs Bay and down to Oxwich Bay.

The Club has plenty of off-road parking for members and guests. It is located right in front of the Club with and small overflow parking area across the road. Guests must register their vehicle inside the Club facilities.

I attended both weekdays and the weekend, and both times it was not too busy to get a table and quick service. The Club is full of golf players and guests of all ages and on the weekend a lot of young kids and families enjoy the game of golf and the location. There is a practice range that is well used by all. The atmosphere is great, fantastic location, warm welcoming people, and on Gower what more could you ask for?

The Club’s large function room/ Pobbles restaurant is very well set out with spectacular views from every window. When not being used for functions it’s the main dining area. However, meals can be served in the other bar on your table whilst having a drink. The main bar is a bit dated for my liking but all of the facilities are spotlessly clean and well presented.

The food here is excellent I have tried several dishes over the past few weeks. I enjoyed the Pennard Burger, I like to eat my burger with my hands and for once the bun did not fall apart. So in this case I was not covered in the BBQ sauce. Later in the week, I tried the Cod and Chip it was first class with the biggest piece of fish I have ever been served.
For me, top of the line is the Sunday lunch, which you will find very hard to beat. Cooked fresh great produce presented well.

The meals are well priced as are the drinks. A typical main is under ten pounds. You are not paying a premium price because of the location.

The club’s staff was one of the highlights of my visits. The staff and especially the bar staff are so happy to meet you with a friendly smile and are very forthcoming if asked for information. I also found the members to be very open and welcoming.

So if you are interested in learning how to play golf or want to play on a great links course or even just what a meal and a drink Pennard Golf Club is well worth a visit.
Another Gem on Gower.”
