Ilston Community Council

Working In The Community

Ilston Community Council represents one of Gower’s most picturesque and historically rich areas, encompassing the villages and communities of Ilston, Parkmill, Penmaen, Nicholaston, Lunnon and Perriswood. Nestled within the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the community is home to stunning valleys, ancient woodlands and some of Gower’s most treasured natural landscapes.
Visitors can discover a remarkable concentration of heritage sites throughout the area, including Cathole Cave in Green Cwm, which provided shelter to Mesolithic hunters thousands of years ago, and the impressive Neolithic burial chambers known as Giants’ Grave. The community is also home to the site of Wales’ first Baptist Church, founded by John Myles in the seventeenth century in the beautiful Ilston Valley.
The area’s rich natural environment includes woodland nature reserves, protected conservation sites and nationally significant habitats that make it a haven for walkers, wildlife enthusiasts and history lovers alike. Whether exploring ancient landmarks, enjoying scenic countryside walks or discovering the unique character of Gower’s rural communities, Ilston offers visitors an authentic glimpse into the landscape, culture and heritage that make Swansea Bay and Gower so special.
